Helen Reynolds

2007 Queensland Nominee & Australian Teacher Librarian of the Year

The nominations received for this award were considered by a panel consisting of a primary school principal, a secondary school principal, a senior education officer from Brisbane Catholic Education and a representative from SLAQ.

The final selection for the Queensland nomination for the Award for 2007 was Helen Reynolds from The Southport School. Helen demonstrated a ‘big-picture’ vision of the role and her nomination was particularly impressive in the area of curriculum leadership. Her nomination showed credibility and influence as a teacher-librarian in responding to the needs in her school community.

The panel reported that the candidates were of a very high calibre covering a variety of school settings. They revealed how well teacher-librarians were working within their school communities and the diversity of ways they enacted their roles according to the needs and the cultures of their communities.

In general the nominations revealed a significant dedication to improving learning outcomes for students by teacher-librarians. The nominations were impressive examples of the great variety of ways the role of teacher-librarian is enacted. The awards committee especially noted the professionalism as well as the keenness, passion and enthusiasm demonstrated by teacher-librarians.

The selection committee congratulated all nominees for the award. The state nomination for Helen Reynolds was forwarded to the national judging panel for consideration.
