International Book Exhibit

The International Book Exhibit is an activity of the IASL Children's and Young Adult Literature Special Interest Group. Each year at the International Association of School Librarianship conference, the Children's and Young Adult Literature Special Interest Group collects and displays books that represent the countries and regions of IASL membership. These books are donated by members and others to give to the host country to share with the children and youth of that community. At the close of the conference the books are distributed to the most appropriate libraries in the host country.

Guidelines – What do I need to do?

  1. Purchase a beautiful children’s book for the SLAQ/IASL conference
    Each delegate to the annual conference of IASL is asked to bring a new children's or young adult book that represents their country, region, or culture. It doesn’t matter if it is not in the language of the host country. That is the whole idea, to expose children to different books from different countries.
    Download a website bookplate from the conference website [download bookplate PDF file]and include all details regarding the donor (you). Paste into the front of your book.

  2. Where do I deliver my donated book?
    Don’t forget to pack your book! The book is to be handed in to the IASL Children's and Young Adult Literature Special Interest Group member on the registration desk and an organising committee member of the host country will provide space to display these books during the conference in the Plaza Terrace Room.
  3. Where do the books go?
    At the end of the conference the book exhibit will be given to a school library or education centre in the host country where children and youth will have access to the collection.
    The conference organising committee of the host country will select the school or centre, based on articulated need and intended use of the collection. Preference is given to members of the International Association of School Librarianship. The recipients of the book exhibit collection will make a written acknowledgement to IASL.
